The Recession is Over?

Not long ago I read a story about the National Bureau of Economic Research saying the recession has been over for year. Not only did I think this was interesting, I also wondered how they came up with this conclusion. Month-after-month people are getting laid-off and retail sales keep decline. People are afraid to spend money, and jobs are nonexistent.

Well today I found a funny article that said how you would be able to tell when the recession is over:

1. When your boss actually replaces an employee who retires or quits instead of adding their workload to yours.
2. When your laid-off friends start getting jobs with benefits.

3. When you don't have to live with your parents anymore.

4. When it becomes financially feasible to get a divorce again.

5. When a vacation involves airplane travel and you sleep in a hotel bed, not your sister-in-law's house.

6. When Starbucks isn't full on a weekday afternoon.

7. When you no longer have a relationship with coupons.

8. When you can list your house for sale and reasonably expect it to sell within three months at a price higher than what you paid for it.

9. When trying to get a bargain becomes a sport instead of a necessity.

10. When you can afford a new car, your 401k has been restored, you've reset your emergency fund with 6 months of living expenses and the term "99ers" is erased from your memory.

Life according to Carrie Bradshaw

I can admit it, I am a Sex and the City addict. I love the show, own every season, and even watch the reruns on TBS. Yep, that's me. I love the whole cast for different reasons and could only imagine a lifestyle like theirs.

Growing up, I always wanted to go to New York. When I finally was given the opportunity to go in college I took it without a second thought. As soon as I got off the plane, I fell in love. The stores, the people, the lights, the museums all had their hands on me and it was so hard to get back on the plane.

I've been back since that very first trip, but I have yet to pick-up my bags and move. Maybe we could chalk it up to being scared of leaving the familiar, but honestly I think it is because of the sky high prices and the suffering job market. Maybe one day I'll just pack up my bags and live the life of a New York City lady, but until then I live vicariously through Carrie and her crew.

One thing I love about Carrie is her dedication to those she loves. I would love to be one of her best friends. Here are some of her rules that all of us should incorporate into our lives:

Rule #1: Why is it that the one time a cute guy talks to you, you have a friend in crisis?

Rule #2: Humiliated best friend always takes precedence over cute guy.

Rule #3: Best friends always think you deserve the best guy even if the best guy barely knows you exist.

Rule #4: Best friends can always be full of surprises.

There you have it, a few rules from the "it" girl Carrie Bradshaw.

Bleh

Today is one of those days that I should have just stayed home in bed and relaxed. The last few weeks and weekends have kept me insanely busy. Who knew that working full-time, selling Scentsy, and going to school for my Master's would leave me with such little relaxation time? Haha. So yeah, I had a full weekend of Scentsy, traveling, and school work and have found myself extremely exhausted today.

Since my brain is just barely functioning and I am having a "bad day" I thought I would share  a story because about a bad day. This e-mail was sent to me today and made me laugh when I needed it.

A really bad day

There I was sitting at the bar staring at my drink when a large, trouble-making biker steps up next to me, grabs my drink and gulps it down in one swig.

"Well, whatcha gonna do about it?" he says, menacingly, as I burst into tears.

"Come on, man," the biker says, "I didn't think you'd CRY. I can`t stand to see a man crying."

"This is the worst day of my life," I say. "I'm a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don't have any insurance. I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my old lady in bed with the gardener, and then my dog bit me."

"So I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all, I buy a drink, I drop a capsule in and sit here watching the poison dissolve. Then you, you jack-ass, show up and drink the whole thing! But enough about me, how's your day going?"

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my

Over the weekend I had an experience like no other! I played with a baby tiger! How cool is that? I have always wanted to pet a tiger and have loved the animal for as long as I can remember. Anyways, there is this park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma called GW Exotic Animal Park and they save exotic animals from people who get them thinking they can handle them. Its a really cool place with a lot of different animals (mostly tigers). You get a lot closer to animals then you do at the zoo. If you ever venture to Oklahoma, you should definitely check it out. Here are a few pics from my phone ... more to come.

Getting to know me Monday

{one} what’s your favorite day of the week and why?

Saturday's because it is the first day of the week that I can sit back and relax or go find something fun to get into.

{two} if you could have a glimpse of your future, would you choose to see it and what time would you want to see?

A year ago I would have said yes, but today no. I don't want to see a glimpse of the future because if I see something bad I'll stress out about it. I prefer to live life full of suprises.
{three} if you could be any animal, which animal would you be?

I would love to be a tiger... beautiful and powerful.
{four} do you have a lucky number?

Nope, but I like the number 3!

{five} if you could bring one famous person back from the dead, who would it be and why?

Marilyn Monroe... I love her and would be excited to have the chance to meet her.

{six} fill in the blank: peanut butter and ____________.

Chocolate!
{seven} would you rather live by the mountains or by the beach?

Can't I have both? Honestly, I think I'd love to live by the beach unless it was in the mountains of Arizona or California.

{eight} do you have any tattoos?

Yes, I have three tattoos. I plan on getting one more in memory of my mother.
{nine} if you could retire tomorrow, what would you do?

If I could retire and not be poor, I'd travel the world. I'd go everywhere and see new things. I hope to be able to do that one day.

{ten} what is your favorite all time movie?

This is soooooo hard because I have soooooo many. My list includes: Pretty Woman, Sean of the Dead, Zombieland, Monster's Inc., The Princess Bride, Dirty Dancing, and Top Gun. OMG there are so many and that doesn't name the half of them!

It's 90210!

So you know what that means? It's time to pull out the technicolor tee's, the teased hair, neon colored sunglasses, and the acid washed jeans. Yes folks, it's a blast from the past!

In honor of Brandon, Brenda, Kelly, Steve, Dylan, Donna, Andrea, and David, lets talk about the fashion of the 90s!

  • Acid wash jeans: They were high-waisted and worn slightly baggy. Your shirts had to be tucked in and a belt showing. A matching denim jacket a la Brandon Walsh style, a must for guys, folded hems for the girls.
  • Baggy t-shirts: You had to tuck them in to your acid wash jeans.
  • Converse and Reebok trainers: For all those times you're running late to class. Now, Reebok is making a comeback with its toning shoes.
  • Patterned waistcoats: Worn under your baggy t-shirts or sometimes on their own.
  • Chinos: It was preppy all the way at Beverly Hills High!
  • Floral: Back in the early nineties floral dresses were all the rage, usually with spaghetti straps Kelly Taylor style.
  • Scrunchies: I used to love these! I'd have 3 or 4 in my hair at a time. I do wonder if they are going to make a return.
  • Hair gel: I mean the serious hold stuff. You know the kind in bottle that is pink, blue, or green. What was the point of all the colors?

Tonight I'll be watching some reruns of one of my most favorite shows of the 90s. But here is a clip to remind you of how great this show was!
